A permanent solution for painful ingrown toenails
If you’re suffering from a painful ingrown toenail that keeps returning, nail surgery can provide a safe, effective and long-term solution. Whether your toenail is repeatedly becoming infected or conservative treatment is no longer working, we’ll help you find the right treatment to get you comfortable again.
At Green Podiatry, we know that many people are nervous about nail surgery. That’s why we’ll explain everything clearly, answer any questions you have and make sure you feel comfortable every step of the way.
With a success rate of around 97%, nail surgery is one of the most reliable treatments for recurring ingrown toenails and problematic nails.
Find the cause before choosing the right treatment
Not every painful toenail requires surgery. During your assessment, one of our experienced podiatrists will examine your nail, discuss your symptoms and determine what’s causing the problem.
Many ingrown toenails can be successfully managed with routine podiatry treatment and advice on footwear and nail care. However, if the problem is severe, repeatedly becomes infected or continues to return, nail surgery may offer the best long-term solution.
We’ll talk you through all of your options, explain exactly what the procedure involves and ensure you’re happy before any treatment is planned.
A simple procedure with long-lasting results
Nail surgery is a minor procedure carried out under local anaesthetic, so your toe will be completely numb throughout the treatment.
Depending on your condition, we may remove a small section of the nail, both sides, or occasionally the whole nail. Where appropriate, a solution called phenol is carefully applied to the nail matrix to prevent the troublesome part of the nail from growing back and causing future problems.
The procedure usually takes around an hour. Afterwards, we’ll provide clear aftercare advice and arrange follow-up appointments to monitor your healing and answer any questions along the way.
Most people are able to return to normal daily activities within a couple of days, although complete healing typically takes between six and eight weeks.
Get back to living without nail pain
Living with an ingrown toenail can affect your work, exercise and everyday life. Nail surgery offers a permanent solution, allowing you to walk comfortably without the worry of recurring pain or infection.
